Report to Met Police over Hate Letter

Last night after the New Wing for King George Meeting a group of went to Ilford Police Station to report the publishers of the Ilford Recorder for hate crime.

The letter sent to the police is below:

The report of hate crime was sent to the police earlier today. I wrote the following to the police

A letter was published by the Ilford Recorder on the 27th June 2024 written by Mr Dunlop. inciting religious hatred against Muslims. The letter remains on the Ilford Recorder website it could be redacted but has not been. Although, an apology has been issued by the Recorder two weeks after the event. There is a petition on the letter at https://chng.it/sZBdT62zMx The purpose of the petition was to obtain a debate at Redbridge Council with a view to council seeking a referral to the police. However, the Council have recently declined to accept the petition. I am a practicing Christian, if the rhetoric in Mr Dunbar's letter is allowed, it will destabilise community relations. For example, a letter could argue that Christians are crusaders bent on occupying foreign lands so residents should not vote for a Christian canditate and argue that it was reasonable free speech as Mr Dunlop's letter, if no conviction were to take place. A group of us were outside Ilford police station last night, but could not get in. My tweet on this is at https://x.com/Andywalker1945/status/1813179538148405484 To be clear, I am not seeking a conviction against the letter writer, I am seeking a conviction against the published of the Ilford Recorder, Newsquest Media Group Ltd. The text of the letter being held by me outside the police station per the tweet is as follows Stop the Hate Letters C/0 120 Blythswood Road Ilford IG3 8SG Dear Ilford Station Police Officer Recorder Hate Letter: We say the Ilford Recorder letter published on 27th June 2024 by Finlay Dunbar incites religious hatred. In particular the words: “There is an independent candidate standing who would if she were able, drag this country back to the Middle Ages. It is not inconceivable that if enough candidates who share her world view attain a seat in Parliament and they gain real power through the democratic process, then this country could be under Shariah Law within 10 years.” Wes Streeting MP said via twitter: “A letter in the Ilford Recorder makes Islamophobic accusations about one of my opponents. I won’t stand for it and condemn it unequivocally. As an MP, I’m proud to have led groundbreaking work on tackling Islamophobia. I will never be a bystander to it. “ Hate speech has consequences, a recent example is at Hate crime: firebombing of ex-Wigan church being turned into food bank and Muslim prayer room at link https://www.wigantoday.net/news/crime/hate-crime-firebombing-of-ex-wigan-church-being-turned-into-food-bank-and-muslim-prayer-room-4686020 The Recorder issued an apology two weeks after the event on July 11th, but at time of writing the hate letter has still not been redacted from the digital e-edition. We urge you to prosecute the Ilford Recorder (or their publisher) for publishing hate crime. Regards Andy Walker TUSC 120 Blythswood Road Ilford IG3 8SG Bob Archer - Redbridge Trades Council Noor Begum - Independent Marwan Elfallah Redbridge Community Action Group
